In Defense Of Animals Offers Reward for Information Leading to Arrest and Conviction of Those who Decapitated Goats in San Jose

Three decapitated goats left at entrance to popular park evoke outrage from animal protection organization

San Rafael, Calif. (August 5, 2010)
- In Defense of Animals (IDA), an international animal protection organization that operates hands-on rescue facilities in Mississippi, Africa and India, has offered a reward of $2,500 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the reprehensible be-heading of three goats, whose mutilated bodies were left on display at the entrance to Alum Rock Park in San Jose, California.

A passing jogger made the gruesome discovery early Saturday morning in front of this popular picnic and family activity park.  Animal control officers were immediately called to Alum Rock Park due to the suspicious nature of these tragic animal deaths.  The case has caused widespread disgust and outrage as well as fear in the surrounding neighborhoods.

Investigation by San Jose Animal Control is underway in order to find those responsible for this heinous act, and to determine the circumstances of the animals’ deaths.

“Animals are not simply put on Earth for humans to use in whatever sick and twisted ways they please.  They are sentient, innocent beings who need our protection, care and respect,” said IDA President Scotlund Haisley.  “This is a matter of utmost concern, also due to the fact that an indisputable link has been established between criminal animal abuse and violence against humans,” Haisley added.

“IDA is committed to ending animal cruelty wherever we find it. It is our hope that with this $2,500 reward offer, which we encourage other individuals and organizations to add to, someone will come forward who can help authorities find these dangerous, felony animal abusers.  We will work with municipal and county agencies in whatever way we can to this end,” said Haisley, a formidable rescuer with over 20 years of cruelty and disaster response experience.

the reward should be a heck of a lot more!! this was a horrible act!!!!!!!!!! no doubt these poor animals suffered to the maxx not to mention the cowards left their bodies for all to see…so obviously they could care less about the human race either!

Here’s hoping the investigators find the mindless/spineless cowards who did this cruel act.
The punishment should carry the maximum: incarceration, fines, psychological counseling, and yrs of monitoring those involved, just like the monitoring of child molesters. These cowards are a threat to society and should be treated as such.

    Disgusting disregard for life.

This person has great issues and is a disturbed walking, talking time bomb waiting to strike his next vicitm. Animals are easy targets for these type of individuals and so are children. They need to be off the streets and fast before another animal or human is hurt.

This barbaric act is just heinous and sickening and certainly shows the extreme cruelty and pathological traits of the person or persons involved. Whether this was done because of a cult, or a religious reason, or just for “fun”, it is horrible. I hope that every single means be used to find the offenders and put them away for a long, long time. People like this can never be rehabilitated. I personally wish they would be found and the same tortures inflicted on them.

Killing goats in such a manner is the most horrid thing I have read besides the BLM runs on herds that can not defend themselves and kill babies mares and older horses and even cripple healthy ones Goats are the sweetest creatures we own two of them
I hope the cowards are caught and put behind bars quickly if they can kill a goat who by nature are loving animals
Couldn’t the killers also kill a child or any other human?
    Disgusting and very sad.
    Please catch them soon

I hope these culprits rot in hell. I hope they develop an incurable disease – fast!!!

Ultimate horror. Hope executors will finish in hell soon. Psycho killer as danger for community.

Find the sociopaths and inflict the same torture upon them. The laws in this country are pathetic when it comes to protecting animals. What is the absolute worst punishment they will get if convicted? A four year felony and not being able to own animals. Yet, if this happened to a human being, it would be a penalty of 25-life. As long as the laws protecting animals are weak and inefficient, sociopaths like these will continue to inflict cruelty upon animals.

This is horrible. IDA’s offering the reward makes me wonder though, whether it would make sense for those who care for animals to create a fund that is used solely for rewards to capture and prosecute and convict animal abusers worldwide. I am thinking of some of the perpetrators who have been broadcasting their evil deeds on facebook, for example. Not all countries have sufficiently protective animal abuse laws, but some do have laws.

When you think you have seen or heard it all, then something like this happens. I comment on
Wendy Forster’s comment, with the exception that the killers should rot here on earth, not in hell, right after they are caught and convicted… and I pray for this conclusion.

I would not be in the least surprised that this was done in the name of Santeria.
Those who practice this cult, use animals for their rituals and have neither respect or compassion for them. Let’s hope they get locked up where they’ll get an incurable disease and rot in hell.

These people are the scum of the earth.

  • Marcia wrote on 15 August, 2010, 18:28

I hope the people who did this are caught and punished severely. It’s also about time to stop playing the culture card (treating animals badly is just part of our culture) and the religion card (animal sacrifice is part of our religion). Cruelty to animals should not be allowed under those pretenses. This is not the Middle Ages and this is America.

  • Penny wrote on 16 August, 2010, 22:30

I think we are all in agreement that what was done to these goats is heinous and no explanation will suffice. But I also wish to comment about Alum Rock Park itself. Homes go right up to the entrance to the park, so I am not surprised that people are fearful about what’s going on. And while it’s true that most of the park has easy access by car, you can get up into the rocks or into the hills and really be on your own if you encounter something or someone nasty. So while I hope they catch whoever did this for the goats’ sake, I also hope they catch them for the sake of the people who love, use, and live around the park.

  • Ligita Mikelsons wrote on 17 August, 2010, 14:31

Why am I not surprised? There exists so large a number of sub-human, aberrational “humans” on the planet, it defies comprehension. Never in my lifetime, will I ever understand how a living, breathing, feeling (?) person (again, I use the term loosely), could commit such a despicable act. Indeed, those responsible should be decapitated in the same manner as the poor, defenseless goats. God put these animals here for a reason. Despite the fact that I am a God-fearing person, I fear he made a mistake with the perpetrators.

  • Liddy wrote on 17 October, 2010, 7:12

Are there any updates on this case? Have these people been caught?
